In July 2004, five members were selected to the Executive for a two year period. Outlined below is a profile of each Executive Member.

 Shona McGhie


Position/Area of Responsibility: 
President. NZSLTA Camp informer, organiser of national NZSLTA conference in 2004, manages financial applications and reviews qualifications/membership.

Involvement with Sign Language:
Is currently a NZSL Tutor at Kelston Deaf Education Centre, Auckland, where she has taught for the last 10 years. She also coordinates regional NZSL intensive courses for KDEC. Shona has also taught at numerous community education evening classes in the past.

The best thing about teaching NZSL:
It is always learning something new at the same time when you are teaching. The more you teach, the more you learn. NZSL is a living language.


 Lynette Pivac


Position/Area of Responsibility: Executive Member. Is contact person for NZSLTA matters, responsible for website project, constitution, representing NZSLTA at D.A.M.N. and other meetings, development of tutors handbook and overall managment of the Executives and the organisation.

Involvement with Sign Language:
Current Programme Coordinator and NZ Sign Language Lecturer at Auckland University of Technology. Been involved in sign language teaching and attended many workshops for about 20 years, in Australia and New Zealand. Was part of the first group in Deaf Studies course at Victoria University of Wellington and is currently doing a MA degree in Applied Linguistics.

The best thing about teaching NZSL:
Sharing NZSL with others, both deaf and hearing. Communicating freely with everyone, using NZSL. Talking about how NZSL is working. Fun playing with NZSL!


 Dennis Tod


Position/Area of Responsibility:
Executive Member, Treasurer. NZSLTA Newsletter Co-editor and organiser of Southern Camp 2003.

Involvement with Sign Language:   I was involved with teaching New Zealand Sign Language for about 10 years.  I was teaching in the Community Education Evening classes around Christchurch since then.  I am now the NZSL Tutors Canterbury Branch Co-ordinator to encourage Deaf people to become NZSL Tutors.

The best thing about teaching NZSL:  I was involved in the NZSL Silent Camp and I thoroughly enjoyed being with the NZSL students for communication.  This is my 5th NZSL Camp as an organiser for the South.
