Certificate in Deaf Studies: Teaching New Zealand Sign Language

This course will not be offered in the year 2004. None of the modules will be taught during 2004. For information on the course in 2005, please enquire after April 2004.

Deaf Association of New Zealand Statement

At AGM 2001, Deaf Association has stated that in the year 2004/5 they will not endorse any NZSL Tutor who does not have a 'Certificate in Deaf Studies: Teaching NZSL' qualification from Victoria University of Wellington.

This course is highly recommended for any persons with an interest in teaching NZSL or Deaf Studies.

Fees
Tuition: $450 per module, or approx. $3,000 for the full Certificate. Students' Association fee: approx. $18. Materials: approx $150.

Scholarship 
The 'Deaf Studies Award' is a scholarship of $1200. Six awards are available to full-time Deaf students. Application forms for the Deaf Studies Award will be sent out with course application forms.

Financial assistance
Full-time students can get a student loan to cover fees and some other costs. Students on a WINZ benefit may be eligible for a Training Incentive Allowance. See your WINZ office and Deaf Association for details about financial support for students.
